Here is a delightfully small Georgian mahogany chest on bracket feet. This piece arrived painted in a dark blackened varnish with no handles. Firstly we had to carefully remove the varnish as closer inspection revealed the remnants of a patina which needed to be preserved.
Once the old varnish had been fully removed we set about inserting the numerous pieces of missing boxwood stringing. We revived the colour and brought out as much of the original patina possible, polishing to match. Finally, it was clear to see the marks from the original handles and knowing the style of chest from the period we were able to commission eight replica handles and aged to match.
